In this 55 minute class actors will use theater games to develop a character and act out short scenes with classmates. Students will take turns acting out real material including: commercial copy, television scripts, and plays. Each student will receive feedback and a “director’s note”. The teacher will provide a director’s note to students to encourage different character choices. Students will then be asked to perform the same material while incorporating the notes given. At the end of each session students are encouraged to memorize copy and be prepared to perform the scene in the next session. Students are encouraged to “get into character” by using props and dressing up as the character.
No acting experience is required. Adjustments are made to support students who struggle with reading/ have dyslexia.

How can I help my child get into acting?
Kids will often change their minds in terms of pursuing different careers. That’s part of the joy of being a kid. This can create a bit of frustration for a parent who wants to be supportive but also doesn’t want to set unrealistic expectations for their kid. A great way to support your child’s interest in acting, is to encourage your child to learn to walk before they run. The idea of the “natural” talent is outdated. What is considered good acting has changed over both decades and centuries. As technology improves our criteria for what is a good actor also changes. Acting is one of those crazy professions where passion or cute face isn’t enough to get you an agent let alone a job. Taking an acting class and building a solid foundation is a great first step in the race towards the finish line.
No. Sharing your camera is necessary for allowing feedback on physical movements when acting out a scene. It is also very difficult of others in the class to perform opposite of a classmate, if they cannot see the other person.
If your child is concerned about other students “seeing” them contact us to discuss.
Classes are taught through Zoom. You do not need to download the Zoom app to attend. You may use a computer, table, laptop, or smartphone. If you prefer to simply call in, know that the instructor cannot see you.
